Very enjoyable...

To be honest, I'm 50 years old, and I was NOT a huge fan of Peter, Paul and Mary during the 1960's. But they did several songs I wanted music for to play at home on my piano, and this really is a wonderful collection of MOST of their major hits. A few are missing (The Wedding Song, recorded long after the 1960's, I believe; 500 Miles). The arrangements are interesting, moderately difficult to play, but very enjoyable. I'm delighted with this product.

Another great PPM song book

I love Peter Paul and Mary. Their albums were always full of wonderful music arrangements and styling. This book has guitar chords and a wide selection of songs from their long music careers together. If you were into PPM or are just hearing their music now, this is a good book for learning and playing their songs.

These are tunes used by PP&M, but they are not the original arrangements. They are generally simple piano material with guitar chords added. OK as is, but deluxe it's not and anthology is a stretch.

The recipes are accessible even to novice cooks, and the book's square format helps it to lie flat. Heavy coated stock gives the book a solid feel. Strikingly appealing four color gyotaku (nature prints) of various sea faunae illustrate each chapter head. Every print has been taken from an actual catch, which was consumed after the print was made! A nice touch is a chapter on sauces, dips, and marinades at the end of the book, and the incorporation of an appendix that provides nutrients and calorie counts. Tasty Recipes for the Seafood Lover

If you are looking for new and exotic seafood recipes, then this is the book for you! With easy-to-understand directions a cook can learn how to clean and prepare the finest delicacies of the sea and enjoy the culinary delights of Don Hubbard's vast experience.
The book is beautifully illustrated with pictures that could well be framed for their quality. I particularly enjoyed the personal stories of the sea and learned a great deal about the sea creatures that often please my palate.
I would recommend this cookbook highly to anyone who loves exotic seafood.

Fresh new recipies, beautiful artwork, helpful instructions.

Having lived in California for over 50 years, I have loved the offerings of the sea. Though I have an extensive collection of recipies, Don Hubbards are fresh and exciting. It seems, having read other reviews of this delightful book, that my favorites have been appreciated by others as well. Mussel sauce with linguini, spinach and sour cream, Baked potato stuffed with avacado and shrimp are at the top of my list. Don has many new ideas for the preparation of these exotic gifts. The pizza recipies are fun. The artwork is beautiful. I have had the pleasure of seeing Don's art work in local shows. I particularly appreciated the complete and enjoyable instructions as well as the stories. All in all, this is a fabulous book. I tend to reach for it every time I want to treat myself to a wonderful meal. A must in any kitchen!

How to build a smoking crater with H2

As an engineer who both uses hydrogen and can work the math, I'm astonished that no one has corrected Peavey. He mixes units, get equations wrong and just plain can't spell. A decelerating engine is "braking" not "breaking", for example. His thermodynamic computations are often wrong once you work them out, his "borrowing" of other sources is painful where "propane" was not changed to "hydrogen" is all cases in a paragraph. Incredible. This text is very nearly the "Anarchist's Cookbook" of renewable energy -- there's a lot of words, some of it correct, but someone's going to get badly hurt if they actually follow this guide. All that, and a decade out of date to boot. If Amazon would take the book back, I'd gladly send them the ashes from the woodstove.

High Density Information In Plain English

I learned more in five minutes of reading this book than in months of wading through subject indexes in the library (much of the information cannot be found with on-line sources). More people should be made aware of the ideas this book offers in helping solve the world problem of energy. Fuel From Water is what I was looking for and I will put it to good use. Having always been interested in alternate energy sources, and since I am involved in electronics manufacturing, I find the production of electrical energy a fascinating subject. Peavey has done much of the work for me. A friend borrowed the book. He was thrilled to find that much information in one volume. He didn't return it. He just handed me the money to buy another.

what the Hydrogen Revolution is about

This book has been in publication since 1985? That is quite impressive that he started thinking about this stuff way back then. I can't believe all the negative feedback and this book is in it's 11th edition. If there are so many errors and everyone has the time to write about it here don't you think you could send the author a little note? Like "Hey Mikey, photovoltaic cells are made of silicon and implants are made of Silicone." The book is good as a rough start, I'll admit it has been very helpful to me - a professional engineer. Yes the facts and calculations need to be checked but what facts and calculations don't need to be checked? The web sites out there dealing with this stuff are either so simple that a 5 year old could understand or so in-depth that only someone very familiar with the technology could understand the tradeoffs. This book does a great job at bridging those gaps. With that said, good Job Mikey and to everyone else - if you don't like something fix it, or shut up that's what the Hydrogen Revolution is about people fixing something they don't like.

Overpriced

Having paid nearly $40 for this workbook, I expected something that even remotely appeared to be college-level material. I expected the small number of pages to be jam packed with useful information.

My expectations were dead wrong. Many pages are one sided. Most pages have four or 5 questions on them and nothing else. This is no better than a $5 secondary school workbook. Any professor should be able to do what this book attempts to do in the cost of their course and not as an added cost in this sad little workbook.

If you can avoid buying this book for a class, do it by all means.

This book with a retail price of $40 is put together like a coloring book for a child. It is about the same feel, thickness and has the same kind of binding as a 99 cent dollar store coloring book. The price should be no more than $2.99 brand new. The textbook companies have a license to steal.

Very interesting read

This read was very different, to seem as if you were a tag along at a crime scene. Finding out what is needed when collecting evidence for a murder investigation. The wrong mistake can cost the DA the entire trial. I really enjoyed the writers visual they painted in my mind.

Loss of a loved one

The very poignant and personal story of Marianne Caldwell's experience after the disappearance of her mother, Stella Dickerman, explores the primary human emotions involved in the loss of a loved one. The book provides organized assistance for those who may be forced to search for a missing loved one. Ms. Caldwell shares her knowledge that was gleaned over many months of searching for her missing mother, who was a victim of Alzheimer's disease.
As important as the ability to identify and empathize with the emotions outlined in this text over such a tragedy, is the information Ms. Caldwell details on how to interact with governmental agencies when confronted with a disappearance and possible death of a loved one. She clarifies official rules and regulations and outlines the names, addresses, and phone numbers of important and helpful agencies that are in existence to assist people in this unfortunate circumstance. The book offers examples of sample letters to write to the various organizations, and describes how to more assertively demand action in some instances. In addition, there are recommendations of proactive ways to work with patients who have Alzheimer's disease to keep them safe, but still be able to enjoy the life around them.
This book is not just about loss and grief for those who work with home care, and hospice patients, it is beneficial for parents, adult children of aging parents, and other health care professionals. This book is concise, well-written, and outlined in an organized manner for easy retrieval of important information.

Imagine your mother wandering off from a school softball game. Imagine searching frantically for her for three years. Imagine her remains being found in the woods where she had died. This happened to Marianne Dickerman Caldwell's mother. Stella Mallory Dickerman was an educated woman who had gone back to get her Master's degree after having her children. She was a teacher, an artist, and a world-traveller. She also had Alzheimer's Disease. At age 83, on a September day in 1991, Stella went for a walk, and she was never seen again. Marianne Caldwell's book about this experience is not only a very poignant and personal story, but it also offers comfort and guidance to families who have experienced loss; and assistance for families who are searching for a missing loved one. With those she used for her mother, Marianne gives a sample query letter, missing persons profile, and letter to a medical examiner. She also lists the addresses and phone numbers for the Alzheimer's Association's Safe Return Program and for State Agencies on Aging, as well as other helpful organizations.

Took a long time to come. Then the corner and some pages were bent!! Too late to exchange for Christmas. The person receiving it said they would keep it as is. I have an earlier edition and love it--so much fun to dream about where to kayak next!

North Carolina's Outer Banks region, 180 miles of shifting sands, has both a romantic past--including the lost colony of Roanoke Island, the Wright brothers, pirates and shipwrecks--and a unique natural history. Alexander, a former newspaper editor, and naturalist Lazell, president of the Conservation Agency, examine this fragile ecosystem and unravel an evolutionary mystery. Explaining the actions of ocean currents, winds and waves, they show how island contours change, how inlets open and close. They describe the fauna and flora of maritime forests and beaches and search for a rare Ocracoke king snake, sticticeps. Their finding it yields an engrossing story of field science and discloses a remarkable example of relatively recent co-evolution (snake, rice rat, warmyrtle) . The authors also chart the changes brought by development of the island. As natural history or as description of barrier islands, this book leaves the reader with a clear sense of place and an understanding of the forces of wind and water. Illustrations.

In a popular style of science writing that will appeal to lay readers, the authors discuss the history, geography, and ecology of North Carolina's Outer Banks in the context of barrier island geology and ecology. Among the topics they explore are the interactions of wind, sea, sand, and land on the Outer Banks, the influence of the Gulf Stream, geological development, and the ecological role of the maritime forest. Line drawings of native flora and fauna and maps (not seen) accompany the text. Alexander, a journalist, and Lazell, a scientist, love the unspoiled Outer Banks and warn of possible threats to the area. A useful supplement to more specialized studies (Orrin H. Pilkey's From Currituck to Calabash, Duke Univ. Pr, 1982, and Paul V. Godfrey's Barrier Island Ecology of Cape Lookout National Seashore and Vicinity, N. Man and Nature on a Tiny Strip of Land

I picked this book up during a recent week's stay on Topsail Island (one of the southernmost of the Outer Banks). Having never read a book on natural history or the ecology, I was prepared for the paper-pulp equivalent of Sominex.
Never have I been more wrong in my preconceptions about a book. Ribbon of Sand captures PERFECTLY the true mystique of North Carolina's Outer Banks -- how a half-mile wide band of barrier islands survive both because of nature . . . and in spite of it. Each segment of the book ties together both human and natural history. How the wind the shapes the wonderfully high dunes near Kill Devil provided the Wright Brothers with the means to test their gliders and to develop the first airplane. How shifting tides and currents that continue to shape the Outer Banks both abetted . . . and spelled doom for Blackbeard the Pirate.
In short, Ribbon of Sand captured my imagination and instilled in me a greater appreciation for the fragile balance of nature and man on the Outer Banks. I very highly reccomend this book!

5 Star Subject, 3 Star Writing

Anyone who has visited the Outer Banks -- and many who have only seen them from the famous 1970-era Apollo space shot -- knows that the islands are unique, fragile, and someday going to be overrun, either by trashy tourism or, eventually, nature. Alexander and Lazell hope, but are hardly convinced, that nature will get the chance to run its long course. Beyond the fascinating subject, the authors' chapter by chapter analysis of the forces that compete on the Banks -- sand, wind, land, forest -- is a clarifying approach to writing about the science of the Banks. In separate chapters, Alexander and Lazell then effectively show how the forces combined to impact Blackbeard's last battle and the Wright Brothers efforts to fly. The final chapter, Convergences, is like reading a decade-early preview of the impact on the islands of Hurricane Isabel. I would call Alexander and Lazell prescient, but I suspect they themselves would be the first to admit they were simply documenting the inevitable future. Only problem with this excellent book is that the writing feels as if it was done either in turn or by compromise, and is often far less compelling than its subject matter. Still, Ribbon of Sand offers some science, some entertainment, and a whole lot of appreciation for this wonderful speck of the world.

Engrossing

I purchased this book to learn more about the Outer Banks, which I have long wished to visit and where we will spend a week this summer. It is an amazingly interesting and informative book. Geology, geography, biology, weather, ecology, politics, and more are all discussed as is the importance of each in relation to the others. I found the book engrossing and would recommend it even if you are not going to this unique area of the world. Now when the kids ask me why there is a forest in the dunes I will be able to tell them and I will be much better able to appreciate the beauty of the place.
