This book was very interesting to me because it contained information about Pope John Paul II's early life, especially the circumstance under which he joined the seminary, that I had not found anywhere else. (Not that I am an expert on the life of J.P., but I have read quite a bit about him). I found the book well written, but wondered about the credentials of the author, and the authenticity of the events he described. Had not been able to find out much about him until I recently discovered that I had not spelled his first name correctly. Under ANTONI Gronowicz (who died in Oct. 1985, one year after the book was published) there are several Google references dealing with the fact that the publisher of "God's Broker" had withdrawn it, labeling it fraudulent after Catholic Church officials said Gronowicz had not interviewed John Paul as he claimed. There are also claims that his so-called biography of Greta Garbo was fiction, not fact as he said. (This dispute was settled out of court without releasing details to the public) Much has been written about Pope John Paul II, but "God's Broker" has a unique viewpoint. I think that whether it is fact or fiction remains for historians to determine.
